Off the Grid

I am traveling, my hotel has no wireless, and my ethernet adapter isn’t working.
So I have extremely limited net access and won’t be posting anything substantive today or tomorrow. I’ll be back Monday for sure.

PS—This means I’ll also be slower than usual re responding to comments, and that some comments might spend longer than usual in the moderation queue. I’ll do what I can toward checking in every now and then.

I have a request for a blog-post. I believe you claim in “More Sex is Safer Sex” that you learned a great deal from people commenting on your Slate articles. I guess they aren’t all like “Bozo the Therapist” (a comment that made me laugh out loud by the way). A post along the lines of “These are the significant things I’ve learned from my year of blogging” would be nice. Maybe something like “Here is a significant challenge to my worldview, which I’m not sure I have an answer for.”

I’ve certainly learned quite a bit from reading the comments on your blog. You’re quite lucky to get mostly thoughtful commenters, and dissenters who state their objections politely (mostly). I don’t see many comments like “You’re obviously wrong and stupid because…”, or the equally annoying, “Whoo! Go Landsburg!” Some of my favorite blogs unfortunately have a weak discourse in the comments section.
