Cultural Interlude

I’m a little surprised that this, from one of my all-time favorite bands, hasn’t been getting more airplay lately:

    From Wiki:
“…judges didn’t respond well to the group’s opening rendition of “Stairway to Heaven” and, due to a technicality, TDA ultimately placed fourth out of only two bands.”

    That is some achievement.

There are quite a few bands applying their very high level musical skills to adapting rock classic covers for unusual instruments. Red Hot Chilli Pipers and the Ukulele Orchestra of Great Britain are a couple of examples. The skill displayed is often really too high to be passed off as “novelty” acts. However, I think TDA are unusual because they also write their own songs and are not just a cover band.

That was 3:03 that was not wasted. I enjoyed it thoroughly. Thanks for sharing.

Suppose someone wants to try to climb an extremely dangerous mountain. In the old days, prior to emergency rescue helicopters and cell phones, the risk of death or injury might have discouraged him from making the attempt. Nowadays, however, he reasons that he just might make it to the top and back again, and if not, he can always call for a rescue helicopter, which must respond and rescue him. (If he has to be rescued, at worst he suffers a bit of embarrassment). So he decides to go for it.

Is he a dumb ass — or quite rational?
