    I’m following Kate Bush.

I answered wop based on my impression, without looking it up. Google search suggests “lop”. Actually bringing up a YouTube video and listening suggests that assigning letters to these vocalizations is just a convenience.

Are you asking what we remember it to be (I.e. a test of our memory) or asking what we hear when we listen to it (i.e an auditory version of that black/blue/white/gold dress meme of a few years back)?

    Eric Kehr: The latter.

    Thanks, Steve.

I definitely hear it as “lop” in every version of “Tutti Frutti” I have found (whether by Little Richard or others). However that phrase is also sung in the song “We Go Together” at the end of Grease, in which I hear it as “Wop”.

I voted for “lop” based on the recent demise of Little Richard, but I wonder which song most people have heard most often, seeing as the latter is over twenty years more recent than the former.

I think I’ve spent too long investigating this.

In the scheme of things, does it really matter?

F.E. #6: Since you asked about the “scheme” and not the “grand scheme,” almost certainly not:-)
