I know very little about Asa Hutchinson (ex-governor or Arkansas, current candidate for president) but I’ve heard him on the radio a few times and he seems worth listening to. I’ve heard him speak sensibly about markets, about Putin, and about Trump.
I’d very much like to see him on next week’s debate stage. To qualify, he needs 40,000 donors total, of which I believe he currently has about 30,000.
(You’d think that speaking sensibly on a few topics is a pretty low bar to clear, but there will be people on that stage who haven’t cleared it.)

I’m not trying to be snarky. Of all the cool ideas and observations I have received from you over the years, I have the hardest time internalizing the one about only donating to one charity or cause. So I am eager to learn from this instance.
Henri Hein: The argument for bulleting your charitable contributions relies on linearity: $200 spent to feed starving children does twice as much good as $100 spent to feed starving children. Therefore if you thought your first $100 was better spent on starving children than on cancer victims, you should feel the same way about your second $100.
But in this case, the benefits of giving are highly nonlinear — when your priority is to get on the debate stage, a $100 contribution is about as good as a $1 contribution. So even if you believe that your first dollar is best spent on this contribution, you can conclude nothing about where your second dollar is best spent.
I hate the Republican Party with all my heart for the lies and cowardice that got us into this mess. Especially the cowardice of so many current candidates and office holders.
But I did just donate $100 to Governor Hutchinson for the same reason I donated $1,500 to Lisa Murkowski back in 2010 when she was challenged by Tea Party candidate Joe Miller. If Hutchinson makes it to the debate I’ll consider more. Given the spell Trump has cast over most Republicans, I doubt it would do any good, but I will consider it.
